Michelle Zipp, who recently outed herself as a Republican, has been fired for her political beliefs:
PLAYGIRL editor-in-chief Michele Zipp has been stripped of her duties after she revealed how she voted Republican in the 2004 election.
Zipp, in an e-mail, claims she was fired after an onslaught of liberal backlash.
"Hello Drudge,
"After your coverage of my article about coming out and voting Republican, I did receive many letters of support from fellow Republican voters, but it was not without repercussions. Criticism from the liberal left ensued. A few days after the onslaught of liberal backlash, I was released from my duties at Playgirl magazine.
"After underlings expressed their disinterest of working for an outed Republican editor, I have a strong suspicion that my position was no longer valued by Playgirl executives. I also received a phone call from a leading official from Playgirl magazine, in which he stated with a laugh, "I wouldn't have hired you if I knew you were a Republican.
"I just wanted to let you know of the fear the liberal left has about a woman with power possessing Republican views."
Once again, the left shows that they are the party of tolerance.
UPDATE: David at Viewpoint Journal has more.

Oh I see, you think it's wrong to stick your nose in people’s private lives. Good, I want all the conservatives and Republicans to remember that when Ted Stevens and the other Republicans start censoring Cable TV, satellite radio and PORN MAGAZINES!
You wouldn't want a pro-choicer working for Generation Life or some other pro life organization would you? Well maybe Playboy saw a conflict of interest since Republicans get such a kick out of censoring "indecent" material, it wouldn't make sense to have one editing the content of the magazine would it.
Ask Darrell Lambert how he felt when the boy scouts kicked him out for being an atheist, or that the new "faith" based programs that receive federal money (all of which are Christian) can refuse to hire or fire an atheist or someone of a different religion.
This is just a case of you guys getting a taste of your own medicine.
I guess this means you are against faith based initiatives and the Boy Scouts for firing gays and atheist right? You know, since you are so concerned with tolerance.

Playgirl magazine is a private company, so any comparison between them and any potential law passed by the Federal Government doesn't hold water.
I wouldn't care one bit if a pro-choicer worked for a pro-life organization, but that's not up to me, it's up to the organization. As long as the person performed their job duties in a satisfactory matter, which Ms. Zipp obviously was, or she would have been fired before now.
Like David said, it's OK to be a woman, but not if you're conservative. Just look at some of the political cartoons from Ted Rall and others about Condi Rice.
Are the Democrats the party of tolerance? Sure, as you don't do or say anything contrary to their views.

And the republicans are any different?? They are worse.
Ok, the Boy Scouts is a private organization, are they allowed to fire gays and atheist??
If not, what’s the difference?
I don't think any of them should be fired if they do what they are supposed to.
I was just making a point that you reap what you sow. It's like having David Duke become the editor of Ebony Magazine; don't be surprised when your fired.
Maybe Playgirl should institute the "don’t ask, don’t tell" policy.

The left complains about the Boy Scouts continually, then turns around and does the exact same thing, and we're supposed to think they're tolerant? Doesn't look like it. Their tolerance only extends to those they agree with.

Sort of like the right, only not as bad and fanatical.

Not as fanatical? Have you ever been to a "peace" protest?

I don't think it's unreasonable, given that they produce pornography, to fire someone who supports the party that views pornography as a danger to the security of the country.
Oh, and as a liberal, I've never complained about the Boy Scouts. Being an Eagle Scout myself, that would be kind of stupid.

No I have never been to a peace protest. The people I know generally do not protest peace. Although, I understand that is a hard concept for conservatives to grasp.

Obviously none of you subscribe to Playgirl. Michelle Zipp was responsible for trying to change the magazine from a male nudie magazine aimed at women to a sort of cheap-looking beauty magazine with a few "erotic" photos and stories thrown in as an afterthought. When that went over like a lead balloon with the readers - many of whom, like me, are gay men who don't care for women's beauty products but miss seeing the naked men that used to be in the magazine - she now says, "Poor me! I'm being fired for...being a Republican! The liberals are afraid of me!"
Anyone familiar with her actual work on Playgirl magazine - and that would be none of you posting so far - would realize she screwed up big time, and you don't get to make any errors when you're running a magazine, even a porn-esque magazine. If the readers don't like what you're doing, you're fired, regardless of whether you're a Republican or Democrat.
Do you really think she's going to say, "I got fired because I did a bad job and misread the market for my product?" No, instead she makes up a story about how it's the fault of "the liberals," which apparently is enough proof for some soft-minded Republicans to get behind her and support her based entirely on her own statements, which couldn't possibly be biased.
